Reality and Illusion

What is seen is not the Truth
What is cannot be said
Trust comes not without seeing
Nor understanding without words
The wise comprehends with knowledge
To the ignorant it is but a wonder
Some worship the formless God
Some worship His various forms
In what way He is beyond these attributes
Only the Knower knows
That music cannot be written
How can then be the notes
Awareness alone will overcome illusion

  1. I love Kabir. This is a lovely poem. And we need to re-evaluate our thoughts about the world being an illusion. If we believe that every thing is an impulse in the body of Brahmam – a wave form born of Brahmam , exhibiting qualities of Brahmam, then how can we view the world as an illusion? The word Maya is sorely misunderstood. The prefix Ma refers to measure impulse or waveform – ya refers to light. Maya refers to measured impules of light. That is what the material world is – measured impulses of light forms in the body of Brahmam. If we therefor cannot view the material world as an illusion as if we do, we negate the existence of Brahmam. As we awaken on our journey we first see the world as separate from Brahmam. Then we see that nothing exists but Brahmam. Then we experience that within the body of Brahmam the material world exists separate but not separate as everything is a flavor of Brahmam. there is much more to offer here but not the space to do so.
