Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power. If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich. – Lao Tzu

My brother was a rich man – but humble with it – and I once said to him, in simple conversation, “In the autumn of my life I am richer than any amount of riches could have made me.” The significance of this statement was that I live simply, and fully content, on a small government pension although once near the top of the executive ladder. My brother and his family, all rich, help those in need and I give away about 33% of my pension – more were it not for my dentist 🙂

Just about anything coming from Lao Tzu will make each of us richer. Today, I am richer for you having stopped by to see my post at Be Whole Now. Tomorrow, I anticipate being richer still! Rich is like beauty: it is in the eye of the beholder. Thank you for sharing the richness with all of us! (:

I have nothing and feel rich (at the moment). Working on what’s inside after I lost everything awhile back. Not easy, but it’s the crooked trail so I’m going with it.

Really great! When we realize the truth that nothing belongs to us, we will be happy to accept whatever comes in our way and enjoy every moment of the life! 🙂

Have you come across this gem of a story? At a party given by a billionaire on Shelter Island, Kurt Vonnegut informs his pal, Joseph Heller, that their host, a hedge fund manager, had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his wildly popular novel Catch 22 over its whole history. Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have . . . Enough.”

Ganesh, thank you so much for the visit to catnipoflife. I love quotes and this one is great. It is, however, not so much that we are rich when we realize we have enough, it is realizing that what we have is riches enough! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ganesh, I like the quote. The book of Proverbs in the Bible tells that those who find wisdom, and who gain understanding are blessed, that Wisdom is more profitable than silver, yields better returns than gold, and is more precious than rubies. (Proverbs 3).
Thanks for liking my post “Coal under pressure”.
God bless.
