The arms of spiral galaxies are roughly logarithmic, as are the bands of tropical cyclones and many biological structures such as shells. These are spirals which make a constant angle with the line connecting any point to the centre. Rays of light emanating from the centre reflect off the spiral and burn the image of a second identical spiral, slightly rotated.
You and I are all as continuous with the physical universe as a wave is continuous with the ocean. You are a function of this total galaxy, bounded by the Milky Way. and this galaxy is a function of all other galaxies. You are that vast thing that you see far, far off with great telescopes. You are the eternal thing that comes and goes that appears – now as John Jones, now as Mary Smith, now as Betty Brown – and so it goes, forever and ever and ever.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead – his eyes are closed. The insight into the mystery of life, coupled though it be with fear, has also given rise to religion. To know what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their most primitive forms – this knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness.
