Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power. If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich. - Lao Tzu

Thanks Mark!
That makes sense. So glad you posted it.
Thanks! My pleasure.
As you say, wealth comes in many forms
My brother was a rich man – but humble with it – and I once said to him, in simple conversation, “In the autumn of my life I am richer than any amount of riches could have made me.” The significance of this statement was that I live simply, and fully content, on a small government pension although once near the top of the executive ladder. My brother and his family, all rich, help those in need and I give away about 33% of my pension – more were it not for my dentist
Very nice and so wise! Thank you very much for sharing your real life experience with all of us.
Just about anything coming from Lao Tzu will make each of us richer. Today, I am richer for you having stopped by to see my post at Be Whole Now. Tomorrow, I anticipate being richer still! Rich is like beauty: it is in the eye of the beholder. Thank you for sharing the richness with all of us! (:
You are right Rachel! More we know about our Self, more rich we become. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your wonderful thoughts. It’s my pleasure to share with you all.
I have nothing and feel rich (at the moment). Working on what’s inside after I lost everything awhile back. Not easy, but it’s the crooked trail so I’m going with it.
Really great! When we realize the truth that nothing belongs to us, we will be happy to accept whatever comes in our way and enjoy every moment of the life!
Keep up the good work, Pete, effort brings results.
Fabulous quote! One of my favorites! Thanks for the “like” on my recent blog post!
Thank you! Welcome.
Those words meant much to my heart. Thank you. And thank you also, for visiting my blog.
Great! You are most welcome.
Have you come across this gem of a story? At a party given by a billionaire on Shelter Island, Kurt Vonnegut informs his pal, Joseph Heller, that their host, a hedge fund manager, had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his wildly popular novel Catch 22 over its whole history. Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have . . . Enough.”
No, but really nice! Thanks for sharing.
. . . . and THAT is only the start!
Ganesh, thank you so much for the visit to catnipoflife. I love quotes and this one is great. It is, however, not so much that we are rich when we realize we have enough, it is realizing that what we have is riches enough! Thanks for sharing.
Well said! Thanks for the follow up.
Worthy of deep consideration. If only we realised we always possess more than enough – it is when we truly possess nothing that we truly possess all — bja2153
Yeah, well said friend!
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and liking my poem, “The Best is Yet to Come”, I really do appreciate it. I love the quote on this page, so true. Thank you. Clarabelle
Thanks! You are most welcome.
This is a wonderful quote! When we know and love ourselves well, we are rich beyond words! Thanks for sharing- and thanks for the like as well- Namaste!
Thank you! You are most welcome.
A beggar feels poor if he has money or not, a king never wants for anything if he has money or not.
that is what makes him a king
Thanks Russell!
Love the quote – thank you
Thanks! You are most welcome.
Hi Ganesh, I like the quote. The book of Proverbs in the Bible tells that those who find wisdom, and who gain understanding are blessed, that Wisdom is more profitable than silver, yields better returns than gold, and is more precious than rubies. (Proverbs 3).
Thanks for liking my post “Coal under pressure”.
God bless.
